What Ms Amina Patel looks after day to day

Ms Amina Patel runs point for Creation Africa’s Johannesburg studio bays, keeping close tabs on all objects moving in and out of Gauteng. Each morning she checks over the Veld Trays and Journal Box Editions for finish and fit, then updates the team in Woodstock and Durban on what needs a fresh set of eyes or hands. She is the one who lays out textile panel samples for visitors, notes which pieces are due for return to the Cape, and makes sure each Baobab Lamp is rewired correctly for Joburg’s older blocks. When new forms, like the Canopy Pendant or Studio Bench, arrive from the Woodstock atelier, Ms Patel inspects hardware, makes sure the timber is holding up in Highveld conditions, and sets aside any items needing touch-up. Her day is a mix of prepping for studio visits, receiving objects from the bakkie, and keeping the Joburg rhythm running smoothly.

How she works with clients and makers

Ms Patel is the go-to for Joburg clients wanting to understand the difference between a Karoo Screen and a Harbour Shelf in a real space. She walks architects through the feel of our ash and kiaat finishes, lets interior designers test the weight of a Foyer Plinth, and regularly arranges for a Textile Panel Frame to be couriered to a Sandton art school for a day. When a wine estate sends up a request for extra Maker Mark Brass sets, she checks with Woodstock on the next batch, then coordinates delivery so nothing sits too long at the freight yard. Ms Patel also keeps in close touch with fabrication, sending photos and notes back to Mr Johan de Vries if, for example, a Map Cabinet South needs a deeper drawer for a client’s blueprint storage. In each case, she is practical and straight with her feedback, running between the Rosebank showroom and the city’s studio rooms to keep the conversation moving.

When to ask for Ms Patel by name

Clients and collaborators should address Ms Patel directly on the subject line if they have any questions about Johannesburg-based samples, viewing appointments, or the delivery status of small forms north of the Vaal. If you are arranging a handover at Rosebank for a Ceramic Studio Jig, need to confirm how a Baobab Lamp works with your existing plug points, or want to check on a Textile Panel Frame for a school programme, she is your contact. For anything concerning the movement, availability, or condition of objects in Gauteng, add 'Attention: Ms Amina Patel' to your email to atelier@creationafrica.co.za so she can respond quickly and keep your plans moving.
