What we do for South African makers and spaces
Creation Africa is a working atelier for southern African makers and the crafted objects they bring to life. We produce CNC-cut and laser-fabricated items with a focus on wood, brass, marine-grade ply and turned forms. From our atelier in Woodstock, Cape Town, we collaborate with studios and makers across the southern workshop belt. You will find finished objects, studio playbooks and ledger essays based on jobs for local hospitality, retail, education and residential briefs. Our team treats each project as both practical product and cultural story, built for South African settings from lodge floors in the Lowveld to gallery shops in Cape Town and school studios in Gauteng.
Who we serve and how we work together
We work with owners, operators and managers in hospitality, design retail, schools, galleries, and architects who value both process and result. Our forms see daily use, think Karoo screens in studio lobbies, veld trays in lodge dining, or modular marine-ply shelving in urban and coastal rooms. You may be looking for small-edition pieces, installable objects, or a studio to translate your brief for a new South African space.
A typical project starts with a message through our contact form. You share your brief, sketches or needs. Most weeks, we consult with you by mail or phone, recommend a visit path and suggest which objects from our range or from partner studios may fit. We confirm material options (what works with Gauteng dryness or the coastal humidity in Durban), and clarify delivery to your site or showroom. We do not use web forms and prefer direct contact, so your requirements are understood on the floor.
Objects, studios and narratives: our key sections
Our work organises into three main tracks. Fabricated forms, such as CNC-cut veld trays, turned baobab lamps, Karoo acoustic screens, and modular shelving, are catalogued in our products and forms sections. Studio visit playbooks and maker-led stories, covering real South African briefs, are featured in studios and projects. For the context behind material and process choices, browse the ledger essays, where you will read about packing for Highveld delivery, managing marine ply against humidity, or tuning laser-cut shades for South African lighting.
You can view finished work and pickup points in the showrooms section. To see behind-the-scenes from studios in Cape Town, Joburg and beyond, visit gallery and journal.

From first conversation to finished result
Once you email us, our team reviews your brief and follows up with practical questions, space measurements, preferred finishes, timelines around load-shedding or municipal paperwork, and your target delivery week. For most projects, you receive a suggested studio path or a shortlist of forms. If your requirement fits a standard object, you can confirm, receive a cut-list or sample photo, and book delivery through our support. If your need is unique, we may recommend a studio visit, a new jig, or a custom fabrication cycle.
We handle most coordination between studio, courier and installer, keeping you updated by email. Payment and invoicing run through Astros Marketing (Pty) Ltd, based in Sunnyrock, Germiston, for easy South African processing. Our support covers aftercare, additional units, or context-specific advice (from humidity control to fixing a three-phase supply).
