Day-to-Day at the atelier: Zanele's role
Ms Zanele Mokoena manages the daily ebb and flow of Creation Africa's Woodstock atelier, spanning from morning workshop briefings to late-afternoon logistics checks. Her days start early, often in the main fabrication space, overseeing how the team shapes the latest batch of Baobab Lamp stems or sets out Veld Tray samples for a visiting interior designer. Zanele keeps a close eye on the schedule for outgoing pieces, whether a Karoo Screen bound for a lodge foyer or a set of Foyer Plinths heading up-country on a bakkie. She keeps communication tight between the Woodstock crew, the showrooms, and our install team in Stellenbosch, making sure no component lags behind and nothing leaves the floor less than ready.
Working with clients and makers: concrete collaboration
Clients and collaborators know Zanele for her hands-on, practical approach. She’ll personally walk architects through the tactile options for a Harbour Shelf, feeling the timber grains together or demonstrating how our custom brass Maker Mark gets inlaid into a Studio Bench. When a wine estate wants to adapt a Canopy Pendant for their stoep, Zanele is at the table, testing different canopy diameters and shade heights so the result fits their space perfectly. With makers, she’s direct: setting up trial runs on the ceramic line for a new Studio Jig, or working through a finish test on Textile Panel Frames when a gallery requests a subtler tone for Lowveld light. She balances the energy of the Woodstock floor with the steady flow of showroom feedback, ensuring every Journal Box Edition or Map Cabinet South meets the brief, down to the last handle.
When to ask for Zanele in your email
If your query needs a decision-maker who understands both the making and the meaning of our forms, mention Zanele by name in your subject. She’s the right contact when:
- You require a custom version of any of our core pieces, like a Baobab Lamp in a non-standard timber or a Map Cabinet South with additional drawers.
- There’s a timing concern for delivery or installation in Cape Town, Joburg, Durban or further afield.
- You need to discuss large orders for commercial settings, such as outfitting a cowork, lodge, or gallery with our furniture and lighting.
- A unique collaboration or design partnership is on your mind.
For any of these, email atelier@creationafrica.co.za and include Zanele’s name so she can pick it up directly.
