Receiving and unpacking the guide
Your Ceramic Studio Jig ships in a padded carton, wrapped with greaseproof to prevent oil spots. When the guide arrives, check that it’s flat and that the edges are undamaged. Let it settle in your studio for a day before first use, especially if you’re in a high-humidity zone. The DXF file is sent via email on dispatch, so your digital team can prep blanks ahead of time.
Preparing your Studio Bench
Before first use, wipe down the guide with a clean lint-free rag. If your bench is uneven, use the optional grip strip under the jig to stop it sliding during work. Position the guide flat on the bench, away from direct sun or wet clay spills. For plate blanks, align your slab roller or hand tools with the guide edge. For vessels, secure the guide with two quick clamps if needed. All jigs can hang on a peg rail when not in use.
If you expect heavy daily use, rub in a fresh coat of natural oil once a week for the first month. This helps the hardwood settle and protects from splashes and drying cracks.
What we need before delivery
Let us know your preferred blank dimensions and any special handle or edge requests when you order. Send us a photo of your bench or wheel area if you’re unsure about fit. For shared school studios, tell us if you need extra guides for group sessions. If you want to integrate the jig with a specific kick wheel or slab table, give us the measurements. All these steps help us shape the best fit for your studio. For queries, our team is available at atelier@creationafrica.co.za.
