Residency season
Maker residencies with benches, marks, and open jigs.
Residency season announced at Creation Africa atelier
Creation Africa opens its doors for a new season of maker residencies, held at our Woodstock atelier in Cape Town. This programme is designed for designers and makers interested in hands-on time with our benches, custom studio jigs, and the iterative process of leaving a maker mark. The space is set up for productive work, experimentation, and conversations between disciplines. Visitors can expect to find a busy studio with ongoing work on our Veld Trays, Baobab Lamps, Karoo Screens and other forms that travel from concept to completion under one roof.
Residency participants work closely with our fabrication lead, Mr Johan de Vries, and interact with the atelier team including Ms Amina Patel in Johannesburg and Mr Thabo Nkosi in Durban. The season creates a living workshop atmosphere: benches in use, marks being struck, and open jigs supporting new ideas. We welcome expressions of interest from both experienced and emerging creators, with access arranged by email and flexible hours to suit the rhythm of the work.
Opportunities for designers, lodges, galleries and homeowners
For designers, the residency offers a rare chance to collaborate directly with our fabrication specialists and refine new forms, from the initial sketch through to the final finishing pass. Whether you are working on one-off pieces or prototyping for larger spaces, the atelier benches and jigs are open for your process.
Lodges, galleries and homeowners can engage with makers at work, see new pieces in development, and reserve made-to-order forms such as our Harbour Shelf or Foyer Plinth. This is not just a look into our workshop but an invitation to be part of the making journey. We find that direct involvement at the studio often sparks ideas for custom pieces suited to unique spaces, from a stoep on the Highveld to a wine estate in the Cape.
Press enquiries and image access
Journalists are invited to contact us for high-resolution images of the atelier in session, with active benches, open jigs, and newly finished works including the Textile Panel Frame and Map Cabinet South. We also provide photos of our team in action, as well as images of finished objects in the studio and showrooms from Rosebank to the V&A Waterfront.
Media interviews can be organised with Ms Zanele Mokoena, Managing Director, as well as other team members like Mr Johan de Vries or Ms Lerato Molefe, depending on your angle. To request images or set up an interview, please email atelier@creationafrica.co.za with 'Press' in the subject line for a prompt response.
