Delivery and what to expect on arrival
Lamps are wrapped in recycled honeycomb card and crated for courier transit, whether headed to a Joburg penthouse, an Eastern Cape lodge or a Durban studio. Upon arrival, simply unbox and place the lamp in its allocated spot. No installation team is required, as the Baobab Lamp is freestanding and plugs into any standard South African wall socket.
Preparing your site for placement
Choose a stable, level surface such as a console, sideboard or table. For busy foyers or hospitality spaces, consider using non-slip felt pads, which we supply with each lamp. Ensure there’s easy access to a plug point, and double-check that the cord won’t be underfoot where guests or children pass by regularly.
If you have underfloor trunking or wall-mounted sockets, let us know in advance so we can supply the right cord length. For rooms with strong sun or moisture, position the lamp away from windows or splash zones to preserve the timber and shade.
- Level, stable surface
- Socket access nearby
- Avoid direct sun and wet areas
First week with Baobab Lamp
After setting up, wipe the lamp gently with a soft, dry cloth to remove any packing dust. In the first week, keep the lamp in its intended spot to allow the wood and finish to settle, especially if your space has large swings in humidity. Should you notice any movement or small changes in fit, this is normal as the timber acclimatises.
For custom orders or unusual sites, it’s helpful to email us photos or a floorplan before delivery so we can advise on placement or cable routing. If you have other lighting on site, mention which bulbs you’ll use, as we can recommend the best dimmer settings or bulb types for the Baobab Lamp’s shade.
