Getting Harbour Shelf to your space
We deliver across South Africa, using bakkie and courier depending on destination and quantity. Shelves are wrapped in recycled cardboard with brackets separated to prevent marks. For Cape Town and surrounds, we offer direct drop-off with our own team. Other locations receive detailed tracking and unboxing instructions, so nothing is left to chance.
Before delivery, we confirm with you whether your wall is brick, concrete, or timber, so we can include the right fixings. For bulk orders, we’ll schedule a convenient time and can provide a template for layout if you’re mounting a run of shelves.
Preparing for installation
Before the shelf arrives, clear the wall area and check that skirtings, power points or cornices won’t interfere with fixing points. The span length you’ve chosen determines how many brackets to use, we recommend every 600 mm for heavy items, especially in older walls. For coastal homes, consider the prevailing wind if mounting close to an open window.
Send us a photograph of your wall and a quick note about the intended load (books, ceramics, plants) to atelier@creationafrica.co.za before install day. This helps us double-check bracket spacing and advise if you’ll need additional wall anchors.
Mounting and aftercare
On site, start by marking out bracket positions using the template provided. Drill and fix brackets securely, ensuring each is perfectly level. The plywood span then drops onto the brackets, with a snug fit designed to resist sagging. For tall runs, work from the centre outwards.
After installation, wipe down with a dry cloth. In the first week, avoid placing heavy water-filled pots or arranging objects before the oil finish has fully settled. For coastal installs, check for salt residue after storms and give a quick wipe to keep brass bright and timber smooth.
