From ingot to Mark

We start with raw brass ingot, cut and heated in our Woodstock atelier. The form is gravity-cast in sand moulds to produce a surface that isn’t too precious, with just enough texture to feel made by human hands. Once cooled, plates are trimmed and filed to size, landing within 40 to 80 mm. Every mark gets its own edition stamp, sometimes a single digit, sometimes a full series, depending on your commission.

Finishing and checks

After casting, each piece is hand-burnished and then given a muted, satin finish. We don’t lacquer, so the surface can breathe and age naturally. Screws are tapped and matched in brass, not steel, to avoid corrosion. We inspect for sharp edges, check the clarity of the stamp, and lay every plate side by side for a final eye before packing. You might notice slight variations in patina or stamp depth, these are a result of the sand casting and are part of the appeal, not defects.
