Ledger issue one
First ledger essays on brass inlay and canopy light.
Ledger issue one: notes from the atelier
Creation Africa launches the first issue of Ledger, our studio’s journal of essays and notes. This debut issue opens with two essays: the first explores brass inlay, from our own studio bench right through to our Maker Mark brass details. The second dives into the process behind our Canopy Pendant, tracing how it is shaped, patinated and finished by hand in Woodstock. Throughout, Ledger draws on our daily making, with team reflections from the fabrication floor and showroom bays across the country.
For designers, lodges, galleries and homeowners
Ledger offers a look inside our approach to form and material, relevant to those specifying for lodges, galleries, cafes, foyers, coworks and homes. Designers might appreciate how we fit our Maker Mark in brass for custom entries or communal tables. Lodge and gallery clients will find the Canopy Pendant’s adaptable cable drop and hand-finished patina well suited to double-volume spaces and intimate seating areas alike. Homeowners can expect practical tips for maintaining brass inlay and keeping textile finishes looking their best from the Highveld to the coast.
Ledger also includes the story behind our Karoo Screen and the way it travels from fabrication to installation, including the steps Mr Pieter Botha takes for careful handover. Each essay connects our Woodstock atelier with work taking place in Rosebank, Menlyn, Gateway Umhlanga, Canal Walk, Tyger Valley, Brooklyn Design Square and V&A Waterfront showrooms.
Press images and interviews
Press are invited to request high-resolution images of the Canopy Pendant in the Woodstock studio, close-up shots of our brass inlay process, as well as images of finished forms like the Veld Tray and Journal Box Edition. Interviews are available with Ms Zanele Mokoena, Managing Director, who says, 'Ledger is our invitation for others to see how hands, heritage and new ideas meet in our Cape Town studio.'
Email atelier@creationafrica.co.za with 'Press' in the subject line to arrange images or interview times with our team, including Mr Johan de Vries in fabrication or Ms Lerato Molefe at the Pretoria showroom.
