Cowork partition visit sequence
Our work with cowork partitions begins right where the action is: in your open-plan cowork space, before a single screen or shelf goes up. On day one, we join you with measuring tapes and sketchpads, getting the pod dimensions sorted down to the last centimetre, we check for odd angles, uneven floors, and those sneaky existing plug points or trunking that can complicate a fit. Once we have the pod grid, we talk through how your teams and visitors actually use the space: Do you need some pods more private, others more open? Are people looking for shelving close at hand for samples, books, or coffee? Next, we help you choose the right screen height. Some teams want the Karoo Screen to break up sightlines and soften the noise, while others prefer a lower line of sight for easy chats across pods. Finally, we set the shelf span, usually using Harbour Shelves cut to fit. One of us brings a few shelf lengths and bracket sets to try in person: this lets your staff see and feel the difference between a narrow perch for charging cables and a broad shelf for reference books. We mark the final spots in chalk or masking tape, so you can live with the layout for a few days before we make it permanent.
Checklist for a made-to-fit cowork pod
A few non-negotiables help the Cowork Partition process go quickly and keep surprises at bay. We keep the following list on hand for every visit to these busy, shared spaces:
- Accurately measure each pod footprint, including skirting and floor variation.
- Check for wall plugs, light switches, and aircon units that may affect screen placement.
- Test screen heights with a cardboard mock-up so users can visualise sightlines.
- Trial fit shelf spans with real shelf sections and mark preferred heights.
- Confirm delivery routes for large screens and shelf panels, especially in buildings with tight lifts or stairs.
Where cowork partition jobs go wrong, and how we catch it
The risk with cowork partition jobs is underestimating the micro-details: one missed floor plug, or shelves placed just a hand’s breadth out of reach, can throw everyone’s day off. We have learned to ask about future plans early on, like whether pods might be rearranged for events or deep work sessions. The Karoo Screen can be a beast to wrestle into a crowded loft if the lifts are small; we always pre-measure the tightest doorway or stairwell and check with building security about after-hours access. The Harbour Shelf’s modularity means it can be trimmed on site, but we double-check with your IT and facilities teams before drilling or hanging anything near networking cables or ceiling ducts. By mapping everything in tape before final install and leaving a day or two for users to live-test the setup, we catch almost every snag before it becomes a headache. For anything especially tricky, we encourage a quick photo and mail to atelier@creationafrica.co.za, sometimes the best fix is a fresh set of eyes from the studio.
