For makers and learning spaces
The Studio Bench finds a home wherever creative work calls for both a sturdy seat and a practical surface. Schools order it for their maker weeks, setting up lines of benches in art rooms, tech labs, and temporary pop-ups. Residency programmes use them as a starting point in workshops, studios and shared spaces, where people arrive with just the basics. The bench settles naturally along a wide window, beside a whiteboard wall, or central to a team table cluster. In the Western Cape, we’ve seen it as a communal seat in college foyers, while up in Gauteng it often runs along the back of a classroom for extra workspace.
What arrives with your Bench
Each Studio Bench arrives at 1600 mm in length, just right for one or two to sit and work side by side. The top is locally-sourced hardwood, sealed with oil for daily handwork and spills. Its steel base is powder-coated for abrasion resistance, and the brass peg rail along one edge keeps small tools or bags out of the way. Delivery typically takes four weeks from confirmation, as we make each bench to order. Care is straightforward: a wipe-down at the end of the day, and a fresh coat of oil each term if it sees heavy use.

Responding to South African conditions
We often adjust bench specs for different regions. At the coast, the humidity can test the joints, so we select hardwoods with stable grain and double-check oil sealing. In Joburg, dry Highveld winters and dust call for a tighter finish and occasional re-oiling. For maker spaces with heavy foot traffic, we offer a thicker steel base or extra fixing points. In school workshops where benches might be dragged across cement, nylon feet can be added to protect both the bench and your floors. If your space catches afternoon sun or has unpredictable Cape southeaster gusts through open doors, just mention it upfront, we’ll guide you on finishes that last.
