Centrepiece for entrance and gallery
The Foyer Plinth is often chosen by gallery owners, lodge managers, and art collectors wanting to elevate a favourite sculpture or limited edition. Its proportions are made for foyers, entrance halls, reception spaces, and curated gallery flows. You’ll spot it in wine estates displaying a local ceramic, or in a converted Joburg house holding a bronze on its way to auction. Many use it in residential stoep entryways, where a striking piece deserves attention without clutter.
Dimensions, materials and what arrives
Each plinth arrives as a single, solid block of hardwood, sized 400 x 400 mm across the top and standing 900 mm tall. The timber is finished by hand with natural oil to show the grain and give a soft, subtle sheen. At ground level, a neat brass foot lifts the piece off the floor and shields the wood from mop water and daily knocks. From order to delivery is usually two to three weeks, as we build these on demand. There’s no assembly needed. Wipe with a clean cloth to keep the surface fresh.
Adapting for local climate and use
South African sites ask for some smart thinking: along the coast, we seal the endgrain with extra care to handle Durban’s humidity or Cape Town’s winter air. Further inland, on the Highveld or in a gallery with plenty of sunlight, we recommend placing the plinth away from direct rays to avoid warping and fading. For heavy-traffic foyers, the brass foot is made thicker and fitted tight. In the Karoo or Lowveld, we’ll choose timbers with a steadier grain, less likely to react to dry air or dust.
- Custom grain selection for dry regions
- Extra oiling for coastal humidity
- Brass foot deflects mop and broom
- Finish resists gallery handprints
