For weavers, curators and gallerists
The Textile Panel Frame is a practical answer for weavers, textile artists and galleries who need to hang panels securely without investing in custom joinery each time. Often seen at cooperative shows, pop-ups and rotating exhibitions, these frames move easily between venues from the Cape to Gauteng. Gallerists use them to rotate collections, while artist studios and textile houses rely on them for display when showing new work to clients. With its light construction, it’s suitable for spaces where wall fixings are limited, and for temporary installations in foyers, cultural centres or wine estate tasting rooms.
Clients typically order these frames in multiples, sometimes to house a full collection for a group show, or individually as special pieces for a signature textile. Each comes edition-tagged with a maker's mark, so the provenance stays with the object as it travels.
- Popular with textile houses and galleries
- Flexible use for permanent or temporary installs
- Light enough for frequent handling and transport
Frame, rail and tag: what arrives
Every Textile Panel Frame includes a birch ply frame CNC-cut and finished by hand, a solid brass rod as an open rail for hanging, and a discrete edition tag bearing our mark and the maker's initials. The size is made to order, typically matching the textile's width plus a comfortable margin for handling. For a small woven piece, frame sizes might start from 400mm wide; we’ve fabricated up to 2 metres for major tapestries.
Frames are sealed with a clear, low-sheen lacquer suited to gallery lighting. The brass rod is untreated, allowing it to develop a gentle patina with use. We recommend a gentle dust with a soft cloth. Lead time for a batch is two weeks from final dimensions, as each piece is custom-cut.
- Birch ply, clear finish
- Solid brass hanging rail

Coastal humidity, Highveld dust and moving pieces
South African conditions shape how we specify these frames. Along the coast, humidity can swell even sealed plywood, so we adjust tolerances and recommend extra care with storage, especially in Durban and the Garden Route. On the Highveld, fine dust settles everywhere, so we design joinery to avoid traps and keep cleaning simple with a dry muslin cloth. Our brass rods are robust enough for regular handling, but in busy spaces like Joburg’s coworks or Cape’s gallery clusters, we advise fitting felt bumpers to protect nearby work during rehanging.
Sunlight is another factor, especially in glazed spaces or stoep galleries: we use UV-stable finishes to reduce yellowing, but recommend keeping frames out of direct summer sun to preserve the textile's colours as well as the birch’s pale tone. For venues with lots of visitors, like wine estates or schools, ordering a slightly deeper profile adds resilience for service teams moving pieces on and off display.
- Tolerances for humidity or dry air
- UV-stable lacquer
- Optional deep profile for busy venues
- Simple dusting for upkeep
